Third generation Oregonian, this quilt celebrates my sense of place - the enchanting International Rose Test Garden, the Portland skyline bustling along the Willamette River, the Hawthorne Bridge symbolizing the many bridges in the city, and beautiful Mt. Hood, the great sentinel in the distance keeping watch over our state. Still a novice at free-motion longarm quilting, it took me about 100 hours to machine quilt, with tons of thread color changes and threads to bury afterwards! Hidden gems include a patch from my late dad’s work shirt, fabric with musical notes, and a yellow rose with the words “love” and “hugs.” To create the mountain and city silhouette, I created my own method of piecing called “Jigsaw Puzzle Piecing™,” a variation on FPP that works well with very complex shapes.
