About the artist

“A very important thing is not to make up your mind that you are any one thing.”

      - Gertrude Stein, American novelist, playwright, poet, and art collector

If you stop and think about it, isn’t it amazing how many different hats we wear throughout our lives? I grew up in Portland, Oregon in a close-knit family, the youngest of three daughters. I took piano lessons from the age of five through the end of high school, then studied Special Education at the University of Oregon. I taught in Portland for many years, while concurrently working as a professional pianist.

My love of textiles began at a young age. When I was little, my mom gave me a lesson on her Singer sewing machine. One of my earliest designs was inspired by ’Twas the Night Before Christmas, “…Mama in her ‘kerchief and I in my cap.” For Christmas, I made my parents and sisters stocking caps out of old pajama fabric (and lots and lots of pom-poms!).

My family is everything to me. My husband and I met while working on a U.S. Air Force Base outside of Boston, Massachusetts, and went on to marry and have four kids (three on the same day!). Back then, my husband didn’t know he was marrying a quilter - my first quilt was a wedding gift for him. At the time, the only quilting tools I owned were a good pair of fabric scissors and a New Home sewing machine I’d bought for myself as a teenager. When I went out in search of supplies to make that first quilt, I bought the exact amount of fabric the pattern called for, and no more. How times have changed!

Thank you so much for having a look at my work and supporting my creative musings… I’m so grateful you’re here!
